We know the children have been fed when the lights remain on in the evening. If not, they go to bed earlier to forget about their hunger.

Malungeni, a rural area in the Eastern Cape is challenged with limited employment opportunities and inadequate transportation. The resulting poverty makes it difficult for people to adequately feed their families.

Since 2000, AIAIA has supported Malungeni families with a quarterly food distribution program. Each quarter the families are personally visited or contacted by community leader and AIAIA board member, Olga Xapile, to determine their needs. Residents assist to determine who among them in most is need and Olga oversees the food distributions.

AIAIA began in 2000 with 15 families receiving food parcels. As of 2020, thanks to the generosity of Arm In Arm In Africa donors, the number of families receiving food parcels has grown to 235 families.
